Decision

GKD Recklinghausen switches to Infoma newsystem

Ulm, October 12th 2017

The contract has been signed and the decision has been made: The GKD (joint local government data center) of Recklinghausen is replacing its previous financial accounting system with Infoma newsystem. They chose the integrated product family from Axians Infoma because it allows GKD to offer its users an innovative solution based on modern technology to handle the challenges of advancing digitization in administrative processes. In addition, as a member of the KDN – umbrella organization for municipal IT service providers – administrative union, the computing center benefits from the conditions outlined in a framework agreement with Axians Infoma. GKD Recklinghausen is a public law administrative union for local government IT service providers in the Recklinghausen district and the eight cities of Castrop-Rauxel, Datteln, Dorsten, Gladbeck, Haltern am See, Oer-Erkenschwick, Recklinghausen and Waltrop. The plan is to convert customers by 2020.

One key reason why GKD decided on Infoma newsystem was its experiences with the provider in project management for the city of Recklinghausen. With over 100,000 inhabitants, Recklinghausen is the largest city in the district and started a two-year conversion project to the new financial and tax system in 2016. At the same time, the district administration of Recklinghausen was the first GKD customer to decide to switch to Infoma newsystem. The Recklinghausen district, located in the northern part of the Ruhr region, has over 617,000 inhabitants – making it the most heavily populated district in Germany. Productive operations are slated to start on 1/1/2018. The other local governments in the district are also impressed by Infoma newsystem and have given GKD the green light to replace their own solutions.

“Our expertise is based on long-term experience using modern technologies to improve administration and citizen services,” says Sören Kuhn, Managing Director of GKD Recklinghausen, explaining their decision. “Due to the extensive expertise we already had with Microsoft, we quickly realized that financial accounting from Axians Infoma was the right product to replace our existing process.”

Oliver Couvigny, Managing Director of Axians Infoma, adds: “I’m glad we’ve agreed to cooperate. This means GKD Recklinghausen can now offer its customers a long-term, economical, and modern solution at attractive KDN framework agreement conditions, helping them prepare very well for the future.”

The schedule maps out a three-stage implementation process. The GKD and Recklinghausen district conversion to Infoma newsystem will be completed by early 2018. Four other customers will go live with the system in both early 2019 and 2020 after a one-year introductory phase.

After krz Lemgo chose to work with Infoma newsystem in November 2016, the new partnership with GKD Recklinghausen once again confirms the Ulm software provider’s success. Over 160 local governments in North Rhine Westphalia are currently handling their accounting with Infoma newsystem. After GKD Recklinghausen completes its roll-out by 2020, and krz Lemgo completes its roll-out in 2021, the solution’s market share will be over 50 percent.
