Our Lautern – now all digital! Ever since it placed in the top 5 in the “Digital City” competition put on by Bitkom and the German City and Borough Association in 2017, the city of Kaiserlautern has been consistently pursuing its goal of becoming a model digital city in Rhineland-Palatinate under this motto. It is important to project managers that they are not pushing digitization as an end unto itself, but instead as a way to improve quality of life for their citizens. In all their efforts to pursue a digital future, the city of roughly 100,000 inhabitants places people in focus.

Turning three into one! Good communication and intensive collaboration are essential for merging three municipalities within a short time and creating a new administration – especially if the restructuring occurs at the same time with a comprehensive launch of digital processes. It is doable, however, as the merger of the municipalities of Obere Kyll, Hillesheim and Gerolstein from Rhineland-Palatinate shows.

The municipality of Bobenheim-Roxheim in Rhineland-Palatinate had very clear ideas about the further modernisation of the administration and its prompt realisation. The departure into innovative, end-to-end digital processes was of paramount importance. The top priority was the digitization of financial management. After just under a year of live operation, the decision made at the time for a complete package from Infoma newsystem proved its far-sightedness.

The city of Dillenburg had a clear idea of how to use the electronic tax file: From a purely physical point of view, the huge filing cabinets were to disappear. In terms of workflow, the focus was on direct, fast and constant access from the tax object to the files. A plan that the municipality so successfully implemented that there are initial considerations of using the e-file in other areas as well, such as asset accounting.

Introduction of the electronic invoice workflow and eInvoice manager has resulted in only minor changes to the actual invoice processing procedure at the borough of Karlsbad. However, there is a clear difference in the speed of processing, the ability of all offices involved to have access at all times, and the extensive automation. Users’ initial reviews are highly positive, thanks to these advantages and more.
